Check Out These Affordable Beach Towns in Florida

On the Bay

In late 2018, the Tampa Bay Metro Area, which consists of Pasco, Pinellas, and Hillsborough counties, was the most affordable place to live in the United States. The Cost of Living Index Report found that the metro area had a below average cost of living, scoring lowest in the nation for housing and second lowest for utilities.

More than a year later, not much has changed about this sun-kissed corner of Florida. You can still enjoy sun, sand, and surf for less than other comparable areas in the nation.

Here are some waterfront communities where you can set down roots without breaking the bank.

St. Petersburg Beach

According to PayScale, the cost of living in this stunning beach town is 7% lower than the average. Not bad considering the resort-style amenities available in this corner of Florida, from recreational amenities to shopping and dining. And then there’s the pristine shoreline that leads to the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Clearwater Beach

Despite being the third largest city in the Tampa Bay Metro Area, the cost of living in Clearwater Beach is about 8% lower than the national average. Atlas Van Lines also reports that housing costs are roughly 20% lower than the national average

But a relatively lower cost of living doesn’t mean you have to make compromises – Clearwater Beach is a world-class waterfront community with over three spectacular miles of white sand beaches and direct access to the glistening waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Residents also enjoy top notch shopping and dining in local retail hotspots like the Cleveland Street District.

Indian Rocks Beach

HomeToGo, a global vacation search engine, ranked Indian Rocks Beach the 6th most affordable beach destination in its Beach Price Index based on several factors including accommodations, parking, and beach essentials like beer, cocktails, bottled water, fish tacos, and sunscreen. What’s not to love?

It also scores marginally lower than the rest of Sunshine State for transportation and goods and services on Area Vibes’ Cost of Living Index

IRB is the quintessential Florida beach town, offering over three miles of pristine beaches that can be accessed from multiple points throughout Gulf Boulevard.

Tampa

In 2019, the Council for Community and Economic Research found that Tampa Bay had the lowest cost of living among Florida’s urban areas, making it the best place to enjoy big city conveniences at affordable prices. The quality of life and numerous career opportunities for skilled workers make it unbeatable. The lack of personal income tax also means your salary will go farther

Lastly, Tampa gets the seal of approval from millennials, ranking 5th among Florida cities for this demographic.

Located along the Gulf Coast, this major Florida city is known for local attractions like the Tampa Riverwalk, a commercial strip lined with trendy bars and innovative restaurants.
